Mission Statement
Heritage Elizabethtown-Kitley is committed to furthering the investigation, identification, preservation, interpretation and wise use of the natural and constructed heritage of Elizabethtown-Kitley Township.

Heritage Elizabethtown-Kitley meets at 7:00 p.m. the 3rd Thursday of the month at the main Administration Office in New Dublin. Summer Student Activities 2006 - History Online - Butternut Bay and Addison/Greenbush
In previous years the Heritage Elizabethtown-Kitley Committee had employed summer students to research and write brief histories of some of the small communities or regions within the Township. Two of these, Greenbush and Addison Villages: A Look at the Histories and Homes and Highway #29 - The Old Perth Road. A Look at the History and Homes, had been published as booklets by the Committee and sold at various location within the Township. Another, Butternut Bay, existed only as a report to the Committee.
This past summer, the Committee employed a summer student, Sean McIntosh, to electronically scan the two published booklets, as well as the Butternut Bay report, and to prepare them for presentation on the web. Sean also took new photos of Butternut Bay for use in this web presentation. The Butternut Bay report and the text of the Addison-Greenbush booklet can now be viewed on the Township webpage, under “Tours and Local Histories”. Eventually, the Addison-Greenbush page will contain photos of all the old buildings in those villages, along with a brief history and description of each. The Perth Road page will be added sometime this winter, and histories of other regions of the Township will likely be added to the site in subsequent years.
To view the Histories visit the Virtual Tours Section off the Home Page. During the summer of 2005 Heritage Elizabethtown-Kitley employed and supervised two summer students to develop a web-based virtual tour of inns, taverns and cheese factories.

Heritage Elizabethtown-Kitley is proud to share their Virtual Tour of Historic Sites in and around Elizabethtown-Kitley.

During the summer of 2003 Heritage Elizabethtown-Kitley employed and supervised two summer students to work on heritage-related projects. Below is a summary of their activities. Elizabethtown-Kitley has over 60 cemeteries within its borders, over half of which are no longer maintained and have fallen into neglect. Some of the very early cemeteries contain the remains of individuals who are the very founders of our Township or have other claims to prominence.
Heritage Elizabethtown-Kitley has successfully requested a grant from a local foundation, the Brockville Community Foundation, to hire a student to solicit and coordinate crews of volunteers to begin the task of reclaiming our forgotten cemeteries. The student was in his final year of a Public Relations program at Algonquin College. Through news articles in the local media and paid advertisements the student assembled three crews of 12 to 15 volunteers each to clear the over-burden of trees, brush, vines and the like from two of the earliest Township cemeteries: the Dayton-Livingston cemetery near Toledo and the Horton cemetery near New Dublin. Both cemeteries were heavily over-grown and scarcely recognizable as cemeteries before the work was begun. Over the three Saturdays in August and September the volunteer crews restored the cemeteries to a condition that will allow the Township to maintain them hereafter.
